Sundance 2008

Anyone going to Park City for the festival this year? I'll be there pounding through maybe 15 movies in 5 days... and really looking forward to it. B WEEK. If you're going to be there and want to connect, drop me a line (or leave a comment). My first Sundance was in 1987 and I've gone almost every year since. They changed the name from the US Film Festival to Sundance the year before I started going, but people were still using both names in '87.

SUNDANCE MEMORIES:

I remember that first festival pretty well... saw a few docs (one on Ozawa, the conductor of the BSO; one called "Islands" about Cristo wrapping things) and also demonstrated the EditDroid to a a bunch of stars, including a very young Winona Ryder (was she 12? 15? I can't recall).

A couple years later, I think it was Sundance '93, I remember grabbing a free magazine from the stacks of give-aways that litter the movie venues. This one really struck me; it was the first issue of a new techno-culture magazine and i read it cover to cover in park city. I told everyone around me i had finally discovered my generation's "Rolling Stone." It was issue #1 of WIRED. I subscribed on the spot, and in spite of the ups and downs of the magazine over the years, i've still always enjoyed it.

Hi. I got a link to your page from aGoogle Alert for Sundance. My friends and I are returning for our sixth year. Wow, it has been impossible to get the tickets we want this year! We are not in the industry, just huge film buffs. This is our once-a-year big getaway. Really looking forward to it.

Six years! nice effort. yea, it's been getting harder and harder to get tickets... and i've been shut out of the lottery a couple times in the past 10 years... i have to say, the ticket part is the worst part of the festival. keep in touch and if i end up with extra tickets -- which invariably happens -- i'll try to help you out.
