30th Anniversary of Star Wars

Happy to see Droidmaker referenced (and me quoted) in the Ottawa Citizen story about Lucas, "How George Lucas Created a Cultural Force."

Mr. Lucas' influence actually goes far, far beyond the movie industry. "The very nature of media today is in large part due to Lucas' passions," says writer Michael Rubin in his 2006 study, Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital Revolution. "The films, products and experiences that trace their lineage to his scientists makes an extraordinary list; his company's secretive research spawned billions of dollars in new companies and gave birth to whole new industries. ... If you enjoy movies, or use computers for video, music, or games, you are living in a world imagined by George Lucas...."

I spent this morning sitting in my new Sky Chair and reading "Wikinomics", which is quite empowering already-brewing notions of the Web. Now I'm thinking I should put the entirety of Droidmaker online in PDF form for free download. After years of this kind of research, i think i'd rather see the ideas get dissemenated than make a bunch of money. And now seems like a good time for this. I wonder what Lucasfilm would say about it.
